Welcome Welcome to the official Web Site of the Blairmore School Former Pupils Association. The purpose of this site is to provide Former Pupils, Staff, Parents and Friends of the school with a forum and resource to share their memories of the school. The web site will also be the primary source of news and activities of the Blairmore School FP Association. Background Blairmore School closed its doors in 1993.The staff and parents at the time were very busy with the process of closing the school and all that involved, the main concern was the future well being of the pupils and ensuring that those pupils all found places in other schools. The staff then had to secure their future employment. Two weeks after the school closed the only staff present were the Headmaster and his family. Because of all this activity, the FP Association which had previously existed in the form of news letters ceased to exist as a going concern. In August 2002, I was browsing the Friends Reunited Web Site and I came across a listing for Blairmore School. I had always wondered if their was an active FP Association so I sent an email round the 60 or so FPs who were registered on the site. I asked each member of they knew of an active FP association and if not, would they be interested in the re establishment of the society. The vast majority of those I asked said that they would be interested in a re established FP Association.. This lead me to contact former members of staff to find out if there was an existing FP Association. I spoke with a number of former senior staff members and eventually with Dan Latham, Headmaster for many years. Dan's enthusiasm for the re establishment of the Blairmore FP Association was infectious and he was kind enough to write an introduction letter outlining the plans. The Project The easiest way for people to keep n touch these days is the Internet. In 1993 there was no Internet, this web site will be the primary source of information about the FP association. The establishment of the FP Association will happen in phases throughout 2003. Phase 1 Phase 1 is the establishment of this Web Site. Eventually this site will contain: news, members lists, articles, photographs, memories, a message board and events. Sections of the website will be password protected. Phase 2 Phase 2 will be the establishment of a database of members. Phase 3 Phase 3 will be the establishment of an official FP Association. This will include a bi annual News Letter, the appointment of a Chairman, a President and a Secretary and the organisation of an annual gathering. Funding At the time of writing (January 2003) there has been no provision made for the running costs of the FP Association. As the School is no longer in existence there is no current source of funding. There are no plans to set up subscriptions until Phase 3. Until this happens the Association will be run very much on a shoe string so please bear with us if updates do not happen immediately. What can I do to help? Blairmore exists only in our memories and it is those memories that we want to capture on this web site. I would very much appreciate any photographs, memories, paperwork you would be willing to send me so I can publish them on this site. Please email me for details. I would also appreciate it if you could do your best to spread the word, especially to those who are not on-line. |
